Why a dental crown?
If a tooth can't be repaired with a filling or another dental procedure, then we might recommend a crown. Crowns can be made of porcelain, zirconia or metal alloys.
How does the procedure for dental crowns work?
You will usually need to visit the dentist twice to have a crown. At the first appointment. Dr. Major prepares your tooth for the placement of the permanent crown. Next, she takes an impression of your tooth and the gum area around it. Finally, Dr. Major makes a temporary crown to protect the area. The impression is sent to a lab so that lab technicians can create a crown customized to your tooth.
At the second appointment, Dr. Major permanently cements the crown.
